Movie Cult at the Roxy: Christmas Movies in December
Every Saturday, The Roxy screens a movie in a series called "Movie Cult." The idea is that each movie is one with a big cult audience, and for December, they just happen to be showing some of my favorite Christmas movies of all time. Here's the rundown.
12/1 - Lady Snowblood (1973) - Japanese revenge movie that directly inspired Kill Bill. Never seen this, excited to check it out. And it has the word "snow" in the title, so it's probably Christmasy, right?
12/8 - Batman Returns (1992) - Yesssssss. This Batman movie a) takes place at Christmas and b) is totally awesome and way underrated. Michelle Pfieffer, Danny DeVito, and Christopher Walken with Michael Keaton returning as the Caped Crusader.
12/15 - National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989) - A favorite among families every year who might want something a little raunchier than Rudolph.
12/22 - Gremlins (1984) - One of my all-time favorite movies, and one of the best Christmas movies ever made. Second only to Die Hard, probably.
12/29 - 30 Days of Night (2007) - Vampires in the snow, what's not to love?
There's a bunch of other Christmas movies playing throughout the month too, like Elf, Home Alone, It's a Wonderful Life, and yes, Die Hard. Check out the full calendar at their website.
