Montana Grizzly Football Finally Out-Claws ISU Bengals
In a game that featured a lot of first half back and forth in the first half, it started to look like there was just not enough forth in the second half.
The University of Montana Grizzly football team appeared unable to keep pace with the Idaho State Bengals' offense, which exploited a short-handed Griz defensive secondary and kept Montana's ground game in check. Would the result be a shocking upset victory by a team that was 16.5-point underdogs?
The Griz struck first 4 minutes into the opening quarter, matched quickly by the first ISU touchdown that made it 7-7. From there it was 10-10 and 18-17 Montana in the second quarter.
After Idaho State's third touchdown, the Griz saw Idaho State's game plan build a 31-18 lead early in the third quarter. And while the Griz trimmed the lead back to 31-28, a costly interception in Montana territory looked it might the key turning point in foiling another Griz rally, with the Bengals going up 38-28.
UNTIL
The Griz fought back to 38-35, when a Michael Wortham 9-yard touchdown run with about 3 minutes to go put Montana back in the lead for the first time since the second quarter, and the defense finally made a stand to escape Pocatelo with a 42-38 victory.
