Missoula’s 4th at the Fort Celebration Returns to Fort Missoula

Go ahead and raise your hand at anytime if this starts to sound a bit familiar. There was this annual event, then COVID showed up and the fun event had to be canceled, but now we're trying to put this pandemic behind us and the event we speak of is back on! That describes a pretty good amount of activities around town - and it rings true for the 4th at the Fort Celebration. The yearly tradition will return to help Missoula celebrate Independence Day

The Historical Museum at Fort Missoula and the Rocky Mountain Museum of Military History are teaming up to offer a day of fun for the family from 10 AM to 4 PM. The Historical Museum's website has a pretty cool list of all the planned activities:

• Old-fashioned children’s games
• Ham radio demonstration
• Food trucks
• Scavenger hunt (for adults, too)
• Tours of the lookout, schoolhouse, Drummond Depot, Trolley Barn, & locomotive
• Historic steam-engine sawmill demos
• Antique engine displays
• Historical surveying and MT genealogy
• Craft vendors
• Activity Booths hosted by various groups
• Miniature ponies
• Cold beer
• Model Railroad Displays
• Smokey the Bear will visit
• And much more!

There's no admission price this year, as the Historical Museum's website offers up the following info: "Admission by suggested donation and supports the activities of the Friends of the Historical Museum, the Rocky Mountain Museum of Military History, and Kiwanis of Missoula."

There'll be a few other changes - including no live music - but the hope is they'll be able to have all events return for next year's celebration.

And in a move that screams 2021, you can celebrate the 4th and grab a COVID-19 vaccination at the same time. The Missoula City-County Health Department will have their mobile vaccine unit on hand and will be providing vaccinations for anyone ages 12 and older.
