Missoula Will Honor World War I Centennial on Veterans Day

A group effort will bring Montana's World War I Centennial Victory Commemoration to Missoula on Sunday, November 11.

The Rocky Mountain Museum of Military History, the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula and the Northern Rockies Heritage Center will host The 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day at Historic Fort Missoula. Here are some of the planned ceremonies.

At 11:00 a.m. a celebration will begin with the Missoula County Courthouse Doughboy Statue ceremony. Also at 11:00, the National WWI Centennial Committee "Bells of Peace" nationwide bell ringing at the Rocky Mountain Museum of History, Building T-316 at Fort Missoula.

At noon, the opening ceremony will be at Heritage Hall. Among those addressing the crowd will be Montana Secretary of State Corey Stapleton.

There will be book discussions and lectures through the afternoon. Exhibits include a World War I tank, "40 and 8" RR car replica, videos and free WWI replica certificates.
