Missoula Police Investigate Shots Fired in Residential Area
Early Wednesday afternoon an unidentified man walked out onto his porch in the University area and fired a rifle several times.
Missoula Police Department Public Information Officer Travis Welsh provides details of the incident.
“At about 1:44 p.m. on Monday, a call came in to 9-1-1 reporting that a man was standing on the front porch of a residence in the 200 block of East Beckwith firing what was described as a rifle,” said Welsh. “The complainant identified multiple shots being fired and said at one point that they man was shooting at a car that was parked at the curb in front of the residence.”
Welsh described the response by police.
“The officers arrived and quickly established a perimeter on the area and began to move towards the residence when the male suddenly turned and went back inside the residence and then came right back out without the weapon with his hands raised and surrendered himself to the officers on scene,” he said. “Currently, we are investigating the incident and checking with the neighbors in the 200 block of East Beckwith and as of 3:00 p.m. there are no reports of any injuries.”
Welsh said the man was then transported to the Missoula Police department where he was being questioned as this story was written. Welsh said the Missoula County Attorney’s office will decide what charges to file, and at that point the suspect will be identified.
Welsh reiterated that at last report there were no injuries reported in the incident and the investigation continues.
