Missoula Parks and Recreation Gradually Reopening for Summer
Missoula Parks and Recreation has been carefully laying plans to begin reopening parks and other facilities, according to Director Donna Gauckler.
“If you’re not feeling well, please stay away and get tested,” Gauckler said. “We need to continue to maintain our distancing. We need to avoid crowds, especially at trail heads and parking lots. We are beginning to open restrooms, picnic shelters, and play grounds. You need to really take your own precautions to stay safe. There is no way we can guarantee all those facilities are always going to be completely safe from the coronavirus.”
Gauckler said that sports leagues will be opening up, with restrictions due to COVID 19.
“We do have sports leagues and programs starting as early as June 8 and June 15,” Gauckler said. “If you haven’t registered for a program, please do so. We will have some significant restrictions around group size and not intermingling.”
She said that social distancing and contact tracing will be evident as Parks and Rec opens for the summer.
“One of the things that is really important to our health profession and all of us as community members is that should someone develop COVID-19 symptoms and test positive, we need a good way to track and trace those individuals that that person may have come into contact with,” Gauckler said. “That is one of our best tools to limit and avoid community transmission.”
