A few days ago, we at the station got an email from one of the higher-ups that strongly suggested we use some of our paid time off soon. Because here's the thing - since everyone's stuck at home and can't go anywhere, no one has been using any PTO, and if we all wait until around Christmas time to use it, it's gonna be total anarchy and chaos around here.

Luckily, Missoula's not the worst place to be if you're taking some time off and can't travel. Actually, the city ranked pretty high on Wallethub's recent list where they figured out the best cities in the US for a "Staycation." Missoula came in at 23 on a list of 182 cities, making us one of the better places to be if you need to burn off some PTO while not leaving town.

They figured this out using 15 different metrics across two categories: Recreation, and Rest/Relaxation. Things like parks per capita, bike rentals, hiking trails, the average price of beer and wine, and how good the summer weather is were all taken into account. Plus, since Montana's been gradually reopening up at a quicker pace than a lot of states during the pandemic, there's likely a lot more to do in Missoula right now than there are in other parts of the country.

So if you're in a situation where you're figuring out that you should maybe take a vacation day or two, at least you're in a good place to do so.
