Missoula Marathon Still in Need of 200 Volunteers

The Missoula Marathon is just a few weeks away and race director Tony Banovich says there is still a big need for volunteers to do things like hand out water, monitor the course and help at the expo.

"Things are coming along pretty well for the most part," Banovich said. "One of the places we do have a need, though, is in volunteers. It takes well over 700 volunteers - around 750 - and we probably still have about 200 spots where we can really use some help at. The best thing to do to volunteer is to go to missoulamarathon.org and at the menu-bar at the top of that page there is a 'volunteer' button," said Banovich.

Banovich says the number of marathon runners is growing daily.

"We're at about, a little over 5,800 by this morning, and we'll have well over 6,000 that will be registered by race weekend," Banovich said. "Surprisingly enough, we'll get people still from out of state that are just signing up right until the end. We'll have people show up on Saturday, the day before the race, and sign up at the expo to do a full marathon."

Banovich says they don’t expect this year’s marathon to hit the all-time record number of runners, but it will get in the ballpark. The all-time record is around 6,700.
