Missoula Man Causes Head-On Collision, Arrested for 6th DUI

On March 12, 2022, a Montana Highway Patrol Trooper was dispatched to a head-on collision on Secondary 263. While en route, the trooper learned that one of the vehicles had been reported as a wrong-way driver just prior to the crash.

When the trooper arrived, he observed two vehicles with damage consistent with a head-on crash. A westbound Ford Fiesta apparently crossed the centerline and collided with an eastbound Honda Accord. The Fiesta was driven by a male who was later identified as 34-year-old Forrest Lumpry. According to court documents, the Fiesta was previously identified as the wrong way vehicle.

Lumpry was injured and being attended by medical personnel. The occupants of the Honda Accord were uninjured. The first responders stated Lumpry was likely under the influence of alcohol. He was ultimately transported to St. Patrick Hospital.

The trooper attempted to speak with Lumpry at the hospital, but Lumpry refused to answer questions. The trooper observed that Lumpry’s eyes were red and watery, his speech was slow and slurred, and Lumpry kept nodding off. Lumpry refused to participate in SFSTs or provide a breath sample. He also refused to provide a blood sample.

The trooper obtained a warrant, and an ED Tech withdrew a sample of Lumpry’s blood. During the blood draw, Lumpry stated he is an alcoholic and was consuming drinks with friends at Mullan Station just prior to the crash. He could not remember any of the other events leading up to the crash.

When Lumpry was medically cleared, the trooper placed him under arrest and transported him to jail. Lumpry has five prior DUI convictions and is currently on felony probation. Lumpry’s driving record shows that his driver’s license is revoked.

Lumpry is currently being charged with felony DUI and felony criminal endangerment.
