The Missoula Youth Orchestra will perform at the National Association for Music Education NW Division Conference on Saturday, February 16 in the Portland Convention Center.

MCPS Communications Director Hatton Littman said the makeup of the Missoula Youth Orchestra is primarily of middle school students.

“These middle school students are very honored to be performing in Portland, Oregon this coming weekend for the National Association for Musical Education Northwest Divisional Conference concert,” said Littman. “They get to perform at the Portland Conference Center on Saturday morning, and it will be members of the Missoula Youth Orchestra who come from MCPS middle schools along with St. Joseph, Target Range and Hellgate Elementary schools.”

Littman said there are also high school musicians making the trip to Portland.

“In addition to the Missoula Youth Orchestra, there are individual high school students, about 24 of them, who have qualified to perform in different ensembles that will also be performing in Portland this weekend. Those high school students have gone beyond qualifying at the state level to now qualifying at this Northwestern Divisional level.”

The students will be bused to Portland on Friday for their Saturday performances.
