Maren Morris Show In Missoula Postponed
Mother Nature doesn't care that we bought tickets. Nor that some people flew into town and bought hotel rooms. Nor that thousands of fans were so stoked to see Maren Morris live at one of Missoula's best venues.
A lightning storm that swept into Missoula just before Maren Morris was set to take the stage at Big Sky Brewing Company Amphitheater forced security to clear the grounds and postpone the show, with information for ticketholders coming on Monday, August 22nd.
The official announcement came over Big Sky Brewing's IG account HERE
Opening act The Lone Bellow was able to finish their set, and preparations were being made onstage for Maren while the last of the fans shuffled quickly to their seats.
The Lone Bellow's set was wonderful. Unfortunately, that was the only singing we got to hear.
Fans getting seated before what they thought was going to be Maren taking the stage
As 9pm and Maren's set approached, lightning and dark clouds began to hover, and fans were told to vacate the Amphitheater grounds immediately. Frequent lightning strikes could be seen over the Sapphire Mountains. Initially, it was supposed to be a twenty minute delay to wait for the storm to pass. It did not take twenty minutes.
Some concertgoers took refuge under the Sinclair gas station across the street from the brewery.
Ultimately, the storm waded long into the night. The decision was made to postpone the concert and fans were notified by concert security.
In the end, it was likely the right thing to do. A lightning storm poses serious fan and crew safety concerns, and even if Maren had decided to perform, all the fans were outside the amphitheater grounds. It would have taken well over an hour to get everybody back in, set up the stage, and by that time it would have been 11:30pm.
I was there. It was a huge bummer; I was looking forward to this show just as much as the next fan. But I'm happy that Team Maren, Big Sky Brewing's crew and security put the health and safety of everyone first.
