Loyola Prepares to Host State Class B Football Championship Game

The Missoula Loyola Rams have played their way into the Montana State Class ‘B’ championship football game this Saturday, as they will host the only team they lost to all season, Fairfield Augusta.

Assistant Football Coach and Activities Director at Loyola Sacred Heart High School, Mac Roche said the entire school is excited to host the state championship game at Ram Field this Saturday.

“It’s been an incredible group of young men this year,” said Roche. “We started out playing Huntley Project in Bozeman and we really wanted to see what the team was made of, and the kids played well. A couple of weeks later we had a couple of lapses in our first loss when we had Fairfield at home. But, this team, like most championship caliber teams really came together as a unit. It’s a brotherhood, and we’re a family and that’s the way we approach it.”

Roche said Ram Field has seen many improvements thanks to a local benefactor that has doubled the seating capacity.

“We got a really generous donation from Missoula businessman Michael Burks,” he said. “They donated the bleachers and we just finished them,” he said. “They’re on the opposing sideline so everyone will have a great view of the game with some top quality bleachers. I think we can seat about 2,000 with the new bleachers, and we also have the hillside that can seat a thousand or so, plus standing room on the track.”

Roche understands that the Class ‘B’ championship game coincides with the ‘Brawl of the Wild’ at Washington Grizzly Stadium, as the Montana State Bobcats will visit the University of Montana Grizzlies starting at 12:05 p.m., but he expects a full house for the Ram’s state championship game against Fairfield Augusta at 2:00 p.m.
