Wanted Illegal Missoula Camper Caught With Meth
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On May 3, 2026, Missoula Police Department Officers were dispatched to a shelter on the west side of Silver Park. One officer knew this area to be within the city park, in violation of the camping in the city ordinance. Upon arrival, the officer observed a structure that was constructed of two large metal poles leaning against a power utility pole. A tarp was tied to the poles and weighted down on the ground to stay in place.
The officer spoke with three individuals, one of whom was 33-year-old Jaray Syring, who had a warrant. Syring informed officers that he was “on paper,” meaning that he was on probation. The officer called and spoke with the on-call probation officer. The officer informed the PO of Syring’s warrant and that Syring had an approximately four-inch fixed blade knife on his belt near his right front pocket.
The PO requested a search of Syring’s person and belongings. During a search of Syring’s person, a small, light blue plastic container was retrieved. Inside the container, the officer located a small, clear plastic baggie that contained a white/clear crystalline substance. The officer knows through his training and experience that the substance appeared to be consistent with methamphetamine.

Syring was transported to St. Patrick Hospital for medical clearance for the jail after complaining of a broken hand. The officer returned to the station and utilized the TruNarc instrument to test the crystalline substance. Also inside the blue plastic container was a folded-up piece of aluminum foil. Inside the foil was a crystal consistent in appearance with the crystalline substance inside the baggie.
The TruNarc indicated that the substance inside the baggie was presumed to be methamphetamine. The officer found the total package weight of the crystalline substances was 2.32 grams.
