With a location in the Railway District, the hotel will be close to some of the best restaurants in Whitefish, like Herb & Omni, Abruzzo Italian Kitchen, Tupelo Grille, and the Buffalo Cafe. But it will also serve as a great "base camp" for swimming or boating at Whitefish Lake or skiing at Big Mountain.
Tourism Benefits to the Town of Whitefish
Similar to Big Sky, Montana, Park City, Utah, or Aspen, Colorado, Whitefish attracts wealthy tourists from around the world. Expanding luxury lodging in Whitefish has the potential to benefit the community.
The Larch House, as a hotel, will be subject to Whitefish's 3% resort tax, which applies to "the retail sale of lodging, restaurant and prepared food, alcoholic beverages, ski resort goods and services, and defined luxury items" according to the City of Whitefish. The city goes on to say that the benefit of those tax dollars goes directly into the community for things like improvements to city parks as well as property tax reductions for city residents among other things.
This tax was approved by voters in 1995 and was put to a vote in 2004 which extended it to January of 2025, according to the City of Whitefish.
