What Bobby Kennedy Revealed About Montana’s Defense & Special Teams Coordinators
Montana Grizzlies Football Head Coach Bobby Kennedy and offensive coordinator Brent Pease met with the media today for a spring season preview.
Griz fans should be happy that Kennedy confirmed that no players transferred during the transition window for the new head coach.
What caught my attention was what Kennedy said about the defense moving forward after the departures of Bobby Hauck and co-defensive coordinators Roger Cooper (who followed Hauck to Illinois) and Tim Hauck (reportedly retiring at some point before the 2026 regular season).
"I talked about the defensive staff. We can't comment on that," said Kennedy. "What I would expect if I was fans and I was the media, there will be some... significant changes. But we can still go between 3-down, 4-down. We can play Cover 2, play man."
"I think the guys we have in place are excellent coaches, or they wouldn't be at the University of Montana."
We'll have to wait on who will run the defense, but at least there is confirmation of what styles of defense the Griz will trot out there.

We got a little more information on who the special teams coach will be.
"The coaches this spring will run a lot of the special teams drills, because we have not hired a special teams coach yet," said Kennedy. "My plan is to hire a guy that's currently a coordinator in the UFL and has had significant college and NFL experience."
Let the speculating begin.
