You've probably noticed something's missing when you see celebrities endorsing insurance companies. Peyton Manning for Nationwide. Flo for Progressive. Missoula's JK Simmons for Farmers. None of them reassure us that there's a reliable punkin chunkin policy out there!

Yep, such is the dilemma facing organizers of the World Championship Punkin Chunkin contest in Dover, Delaware. For the second straight year the event has been cancelled because they could not get insurance coverage.

You're probably familiar with the format.  Creative technicians devise catapults (pictured image courtesy of Thinkstock), air cannons and slingshots to hurl pumpkins hundreds of yards. I wonder if they'll have to resort to the World Championship Punkin Roll contest to reduce that liability a tad. And to really make it safe, you can only advance your pumpkin by blowing on it.

Happy Halloween. everybody!  DB
