How to Preserve Your Jack-O-Lantern for Halloween
For the last couple weeks, my son has been begging for me to purchase a pumpkin to carve into a jack-o-lantern. Every time he asks, I come up with the same excuse. "No, because it will be a rotten mess by the time Halloween arrives." So, I asked myself "How can you preserve a pumpkin's freshness to last through the holiday?" It turns out there are a couple methods you can try to keep your jack-o-lantern smiling.
Most items you will need can be found around your home or at the local hardware store. One method is to clean the inside thoroughly. Not just scoop out all the "guts," but CLEAN IT with a damp rag and bleach. Then give the pumpkin a bleach bath after carving. Simply cover the pumpkin with a water/bleach combination and let it soak for up to 24 hours.
