I have to admit, when I watch a spectacular storm light up the sky, this tidbit never entered my mind.

Researchers have been logging data on the longest lightning bolts observed. And some of their findings might change the thinking on when it's actually safe to assume a storm has passed.

Lightning bolts in Oklahoma and France are the longest on record. Come on. Like me admit you've never given this much thought! :-) A storm between Tulsa and the Oklahoma panhandle produced a bolt nearly 200 miles long! And time-wise the one in France lasted 7.74 seconds to hold down first place in that category. And here I always thought Mother Nature just tossed a little light saber over the top of Mount Sentinel.     DB
