George Strait to Hit the Field With Dallas Cowboys on Opening Night
George Strait may not be an NFL football player, but he's hitting the field with the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday (Sept. 8) during their season opener against the New York Giants. The question is, will he wear a cowboy hat ... or football gear?
Strait, the King of Country Music, will join the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium, where he'll serve as an honorary captain for the coin toss prior to kickoff. Of course, the legend is no stranger to the home of the Cowboys, having performed in 2009 as the first event ever held at the venue.
Although the 'I Cross My Heart' hitmaker has sold over 68 million albums, influenced country music for more than 32 years and charted a jaw-dropping 60 No. 1 singles, being an honorary captain is a first. If anyone can handle it, Strait can.
And the fun won't end after coin toss. On Monday (Sept. 9), Strait is expected to hold a press conference from the stadium regarding his 2014 the Cowboy Rides Away Tour, and everyone will be waiting eagerly for that announcement -- especially after his 2013 dates sold out so quickly. The conference will stream live starting at noon ET.
It's a relief that country music will be so well represented this football season -- Carrie Underwood will begin her role as the voice of 'Sunday Night Football' this weekend, replacing longtime frontwoman Faith Hill. With Strait serving as honorary captain for the Cowboys, it's the season to watch for country music fans!
