Chances are you might have planned to be in downtown Missoula this coming Saturday, anyway, enjoying the outdoor amenities on a lovely morning.

Well, we have some added incentive to tell you about. Some folks who have a passion for real-life horses will be treating kiddos to free rides on mechanical ones this Saturday, June 19.

The Back Country Horsemen of Missoula invites families and children of all ages to A Carousel For Missoula on Saturday, where they are sponsoring free rides on the historic carousel from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  A Carousel For Missoula has re-opened to the public as of the last weekend in May and things have been going pretty smoothly so far.

The Missoula chapter of the Back Country Horsemen of America has over 50 members and is dedicated to promoting the safe and sustainable use of back country resources by both equestrians and the general public. While the chapter mainly hosts members-only events, this event is free and open to the public. Back Country Horsemen of America is “a nationwide organization that is committed to protecting the access of equestrians to public lands.”

Local and state-wide chapters exist across the United States. BCH Missoula is not a stable or horse-leasing organization. But they do welcome members from all experience levels. Members of the organization plan to be at a Carousel For Missoula during the free ride event Saturday, hoping to heighten awareness and interest for their Missoula chapter.

The Carousel is located at 101 Carousel Drive (cool, huh?). But probably easier to say in Caras Park, downtown Missoula. If you need more information about the free ride event or have other inquiries, you can call them at 406.549.8382. Or visit their website.
