Firefighters Turn Down Ellen DeGeneres’ Generous Offer

I'm sure anyone affiliated with the profession accepts the reasoning, but I still think it's too bad. It seems comedienne and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres wanted to treat four Boston area firefighters with Caribbean cruise tickets. Why? She was moved by their heroics rescuing a dog from an icy river. However, the Wellesley fire chief says that state law prohibits firefighters from accepting gifts worth $50 or more. The firefighters saved a dog that had chased a squirrel onto a river's thin ice and it fell through. Ellen had them on her show and rewarded them with the cruise tickets and life vests. Well, at least they can keep the life vests. In closing, thank you ALL firefighters everywhere for what you do.
