2020 has been filled with lots of craziness and uncertainty. But, sadly, one thing has remained the same. Fire season did not hold back on us this year, as it usually does every year. Summer seemed different without the smoky haze in the sky, and the occasional ash falling like snow. That soon changed as we experienced the smoke settling into the valleys, from raging fires far away. With much of California, Oregon, Idaho and Washington on fire, firefighters have their hands full.

Over the past 10 years, there were an average of 64,100 wildfires annually and an average of 6.8million acres burned annually. In 2019, 50,477 wildfires burned 4.7 million acres nationwide, below the annual average for both statistics.

As of September 1, 2020, nearly 40,000 wildfires have burned over 4.0million acres this year. The nationwide preparedness level is at the maximum level (5), indicating significant commitment of shared resources.

Needless to say, it is a busy year for the brave men and women on the front line of the battle with the blazes. But, the key to winning battles is keeping up the soldiers morale. One way of doing that is by song. Watch as an exhausted group of firefighters sing after a 14 hour shift in Oregon. The song was written by one of the firefighters and is set to the tune of "Take me out to the ballgame." Except they parody the song as "Take me out to the fire."
