Deep Fried Delight? Here’s The Top 5 Fair Foods Found In Montana.

Summer in Montana means tourists, rodeos, and fairs...lots and lots of fairs. I mean, who doesn't love the fair, right?  You've got the midway, the concerts, the exhibits, all of the livestock, and of course the fair food.

There's just something delicious about taking something, putting it on a stick, and deep frying it.

As mentioned, we have lots of fairs in Big Sky Country, so when it comes to fair food options, we're definitely in deep-fried heaven, but when it comes to the most popular fair foods, which ones make the list?

We decided to put together a list of The Top 5 Fair Foods Found In Montana, and this of course is no easy task. What do you put on the list?  What do you leave off of the list?  It seems no matter what you do, you're going to upset someone, right?  So, in order to be completely fair (see what I did there) and unbiased, we decided to ask Montanans what their favorite fair food was.

So, which 5 fair food made the list? Here we go in no particular order.

Hand-Dipped Corn Dogs

An absolute staple when it comes to fair food, you certainly can't go wrong with a corn dog.  Of course, the question then becomes what do you put on it? Mustard? Ketchup? Both? Or are you an eat-it-plain type of person?

The Viking

Whoever came up with the Viking has a place in the fried food heavens.  The Viking, which is extremely popular in the western part of the state and in Great Falls is a must-have when you're attending the fair. For those of you that are unaware of what this delicious treat is, it's a meatball about the size of a small potato, then dipped in batter and deep fried.

 Fry Bread Tacos

I don't know anyone that doesn't love fry bread tacos. They are without a doubt one of the most delicious foods on the planet and kind of hard to find.  It seems that if you're on the hunt for one, you better make a plan to attend a fair where they are one of the most popular food items you'll find.

Tator Pig

This Montana favorite is a must-have.  Famous at the Sweet Pea Festival in Bozeman, the tator pig is a baked potato filled with sausage and covered in sour cream and bacon. I mean, let's be honest, this is a brilliant idea, especially if you consider yourself a "meat and potato" type of person.

Funnel Cake

This classic fair treat is loved by Montanans all over the state.  I mean, you take a tasty batter, throw it into a hot vat of grease, and out comes a delicious golden brown dough-like substance that tastes amazing. The only question that remains is, what do you put on top of your funnel cake?  Do you go old school and just do powdered sugar?  Or are you more of a fruit or chocolate topping type of person?
