If you haven't rented for a while, let me remind you of one thing:

It still sucks.

It's expensive, it is practically tossing money down a garbage disposal instead of investing it into property and enhancing your portfolio.

Don't even get me started on how loud downstairs neighbors can be. Why do they feel the need to blast their crappy music so loud?

Ok, I'm done complaining.

Montana is home to one of the cheapest cities to rent in the U.S.

Within all the aforementioned negativity, Montana has a bright spot in the rental world. Unfortunately, it's on the other side of the state in Billings.

The financial help website WalletHub composed its rankings of the "Cities With the Most Affordable Rent."

To determine the cities where rent is the most affordable, WalleHub analyzed the median annual gross rent in more than 180 cities, then compared it to the median household income. - Chip Lupo with WalletHub

Billings was ranked 15th best in the country with a median annual gross rent as % of median annual household income of 18.32%.

A quick Zillow search shows the cheapest 1-bed, 1-bath apartment is going for $595 per month, while the most expensive will run you $1,650 per month.

Compare that to Missoula, where the cheapest 1-bed, 1 bath will run you $846 a month and the most expensive charging nearly $3,000 a month.

Missoula, by the way, ranks 41st out of 182 cities on WalletHub's rankings.
