How Much Money Did the Betty White Challenge Bring to Missoula?
On the very last day of the year, 2021 decided get everyone upset one more time on the way out with the news that universally-beloved actress Betty White had passed away at the age of 99, just weeks before her 100th birthday.
Yesterday, January 17th, would have been that 100th birthday, and in the weeks leading up to it, the internet started campaigning for people to do "the Betty White Challenge." Basically, Betty White had been an advocate for animal rights all her life, so the challenge was for as many people as possible to make a donation to their local animal shelter on her birthday.
Well, the numbers are in - how much did the Betty White Challenge raise for Missoula?
The Humane Society of Western Montana
There are several animal shelters people could donate to in Missoula (and, of course, still can) but the Humane Society of Western Montana was certainly at the top of a lot of people's minds. They announced on Facebook that, thanks to the Betty White Challenge, the Humane Society was able to raise over $15,000!
Honestly, I think it'd be cool if this became an annual thing - every year on Betty White's birthday, more and more people could be giving to help out these animal shelters and support the great work they're doing. I bet Betty would be proud!
Did you participate in the Betty White Challenge this year? If not, you can still donate to your favorite shelter whenever you feel like it - here's the link for the Humane Society.
