In case you missed it, Nimrod Hot Springs shut its gates to visitors this week. The owners of the property decided to remove public access. I'm guessing some jerks left their trash behind or didn't treat the property with respect, and lost that privilege for the rest of us.

Thanks, guys. Really cool.

Even with Nimrod gone, we still have a couple of undeveloped hot springs, but not many left. So we put together the Big 4: Hot Springs Near Missoula, featuring...

Jerry Johnson Hot Springs

Jerry Johnson is my personal favorite. The hike is gorgeous and secluded. There are a couple of pools that are warmer than the rest, especially the one tucked beside the cliff on the right when you're walking in.

JJ is located off of US 12 in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest. You'll see a parking lot off the side of the road.

Weir Hot Springs

"Explore this 0.8-mile out-and-back trail near Kooskia, Idaho. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 24 min to complete. This trail is great for birding and hiking, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are January through February. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash." - AllTrails.com

Weir Hot Springs is located just 10 miles west of Jerry Johnson's along US-12.

Quinn's Hot Springs

My girlfriend and I spent a night at Quinn's last year, and loved it. It was a great escape even for just a night.

Fairmont Hot Springs

I'm going to add Fairmont Hot Springs as the fourth entry even though it isn't exactly close to Missoula. I've heard great things about Fairmont, but I have yet to visit.
