A DC-10 wide body jet was at Missoula International Airport yesterday. It’s one of two of the large planes beings used to drop fire retardant on wildfires. It can carry 12,000 gallons that can be dropped in 8 seconds The Forest Service invited the plane to fly in so they could take a look at it. It’s been in service since 2006.

The DC-10 would fit in Washington-Grizzly Stadium and reach from the north end zone to midfield, the wings would reach from sideline to sideline and the tail would be almost as high as the press box on the west side. The plane has a cruise speed of 560 MPH. It’s operated by a pilot, co-pilot and flight engineer.
