5 Ways to Beat the Winter Blues
It is hard this time of year not to get the winter blues. I have lived in Missoula almost my entire life, so I can attest to how rare it is to see the sun in the winter. This one seems to be the exception to that rule. I have accumulated a few tricks for beating the blues over the past few years. Here is the list of my top five blues beaters…
Play Like a Kid
Go sledding, build a snowman, have a snowball fight or go ice skating. I have a sneaking suspicion this could be why kids don’t get the winter blues. They are too busy having fun.
Cook With a Crock-Pot
Nothing tastes better or gives you more of a comforting feeling, than eating a warm meal that’s been cooking all day. The bonus is, it makes your house smell great.
Get Outside
I know it seems weird, but it works. Catch what little vitamin D you can get from that beautiful sun. Vitamin D levels drop in winter months, so get what you can.
Get Some Exercise
Exercise of any sort raises your endorphins and helps to improve your mood. You could shovel snow, run on a treadmill, move your furniture... the possibilities are endless. The important thing is to just do something.
Do Something for Someone Else
Nothing makes you feel better than helping someone else out. Shovel your neighbors walk. Plow your neighbor’s driveway. Make dinner for a friend. Doing something for someone else gets your mind off of you.
