5 Things You Need To Know For Missoula's River City Roots Fest

After having to take 2020 off thanks to COVID, Missoula's River City Roots Festival is finally back for another year of music, art, and celebration in downtown Missoula. This is always one of Missoula's most popular events of the year, and it looks like they've been going all-out to try to make this one of the best yet.

If you're heading to River City Roots Fest - which is taking place this Friday and Saturday, August 27th and 28th - here are five things you'll want to know ahead of time.

1. The Schedule For The Bands

Artists start playing at 12:30 PM on both Friday and Saturday, with five bands scheduled for each day, playing through 10:30 PM. The Lil Smokies are your headliners, and they'll be playing Saturday night beginning at 8:30 PM. You can check out the full schedule right here.

2. The Support Our Roots Sidewalk Sale

Tons of locally-owned businesses in downtown Missoula are having special sales on the sidewalk during the festival. Walk around and you'll see stuff set up for places like The Dram Shop, Cranky Sam Public House, Fact & Fiction, Zootown Arts Community Center, and more.

3. The Family Fun Fest

Need something to take the kids to? From 10 AM to 2 PM at Caras Park, kid-friendly acts will be performing, with all kinds of fun activities from places like Glacier Ice Rink, Families First Learning Lab, Missoula Parks & Rec, and more.

4. The Roots Fest Art Show

Every year, River City Roots Fest organizes an art show featuring works from local creators, and this year, they're expanding their scope to include non-traditional or alternative art, like the kind you might see at the Summer MADE Fair.
