Montana is quickly turning into a cattle-filled Hollywood. The success of shows like "Yellowstone" and "Big Sky" are attracting television producers to Montana, like bees to honey. It seems that the cowboy way of life and westerns are returning to television. For many people growing up in the 50s and 60s, westerns were one of the most popular genres of television shows and movies with legendary stars like John Wayne, Clint Eastwood and Roy Rogers. In fact, some of these classic westerns were filmed in Montana. Movies like "Cattle Queen of Montana," "7th Calvary," "Little Big Man," and newer films like "Legends of the Fall" and "Open Range."

Now actor Richard Dreyfuss is looking to produce a historically accurate show based on John Bozeman and gunslinger William McKenzie.

According to Deadline

Set in 1859, Bozeman will spotlight young farmer John Bozeman and gunslinger William McKenzie. The series will be based on history during America’s first gold rush in the heart of the Cherokee Nation and will follow Bozeman and McKenzie, who are both struggling with their own tragedies.

Richard Dreyfuss is teaming up with historian and screenwriter Jerry K Williams. They have committed to shooting the entire series in Montana, to "keep it as historically accurate as possible" The team have also hired native American writers to help in the storytelling.

No word on when shooting will begin, but be on the look out for a new television drama filmed right here under the Big Sky.
