A 42 year-old woman is in custody following the discovery of the body of one year-old Kenzley Olson in Poplar.

Roosevelt County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Lee Allmer said the FBI has assumed full jurisdiction of the case.

"As of yesterday afternoon they had a female in custody, and as of this morning, I am being told that the woman has made her initial appearance in Fort Peck tribal court," Allmer said. "In cases of this nature, after the initial appearance, additional federal charges may be filed. The investigation is ongoing. They are covering all the bases to make sure there are no other suspects that may need to be questioned or charged."

Allmer said the child's body was discovered just a few blocks from her home in Poplar.

The sheriff's office was careful to note that neither of the individuals initially named in the Amber Alert had anything to do with the child's death. Both Melinda Tweet and Timothy Dornheim have been cleared of any suspicion in the case.

The Amber Alert was issued on Tuesday afternoon after the child had gone missing and covered several western states when it was believed that Tweet and Dornheim, from North Dakota, may have been headed there with the child.

It is not yet known how Kenzley Olson died, or what the suspect has been charged with. The FBI has not returned a call to KGVO News.
