I was out talking to the neighbor last week and had my two daughters outside with me. In the distance I heard the faint jingle of a whimsical tune. I had to focus for a second to make sure I was hearing what I thought I was hearing. Sure enough, an ice cream truck pulled into our development. I've lived there 3 years and that was the first one I've seen in the neighborhood. That's when I realized my kids had no idea about what was happening.

My friends and I lived for the ice cream truck when we were young. It didn't matter what was happening - all events, games, and activities stopped when you heard the music and knew that a frozen treat was in your near future. It bummed me out a bit that my 3-year-old and 6-year-old had so many questions about this mysterious vehicle that was offering up popsicles and ice cream. It made me take a moment and ponder the quality of their childhood. Ok, maybe that's taking it a bit far.....but it did make me realize that ice cream trucks don't seem to be as popular of a thing as they used to be.

Some serious hot weather is coming our way next week. The upper 90's and 100-degree days will serve as prime business days for anyone that makes an extra buck by operating an ice cream truck. And what will be the item of choice for those across Montana? If you follow the results from a list that Seaside Vacations put together - Montanans will be in search of Firecracker popsicles. Those are the red, white, and blue ones - not to be confused with Bomb Pops, the almost similar but other red, white, and blue ones.

Here's how they came up with every state's favorite treat: "We explored online search interest in frozen favorites. Using a list of 24 popular ice cream truck treats, we explored Google search trends over the last 12 months for all 50 states plus the District of Columbia. We determined clear winners for the most popular treat in each state and overall, and how many states searched that treat the most."

Well, when it comes to the ice cream truck choices it appears that Montana isn't alone. We were one of 8 states to have Firecrackers as the top choice. The only dessert that performed better was the Klondike Bar being tops in 9 states. If you want to drool a bit, you can see all the info that went into putting the list together HERE.

What do you say? If you get your choice, what are you choosing when you hear the jingle of the ice cream truck on a hot day? And make sure you're always carrying a few bucks in your pocket!
