UPDATE: More Schools CLOSED, Others Delayed Due to Road Concerns
Missoula County Public Schools administrators just made a decision to close all of their schools for the day, rather than run two hours late. All school activities and after-school events are also cancelled.
Additionally, it was recently reported that Lone Rock, Corvallis, Florence-Carlton, DeSmet, Frenchtown and Hamilton are closed today as well.
As we announced earlier, there is also no school for Charlo, Arlee and Stevensville today.
The following schools are still in session today, but will be starting two hours late with buses running two hours late as well:
St. Joes
Drummond
Valley Christian
Woodman
Victor
Please do not send your kids early, there is not enough supervision at the schools as teachers and staff are also attempting to get through this snow.
Missoula police are urging residents who live on side streets and secondary roads to not attempt to drive unless you have four-wheel drive or tire chains. Corporal Cami Fiscus says those with two-wheel drive will not be able to drive through the heavy snow until your street has been plowed.
Kevin Hauge from the Montana Department of Transportation reports Evaro Hill is snow packed and icy and that you can dial 511 for further road reports.
Chains are now required for all towing units on Lookout Pass due to heavy snowfall and snow packed and icy road conditions.
A winter storm warning is in effect for Western Montana, expect up to six more inches of snow over the next 24 hours. High of 33 today for Missoula, tomorrow calls for snow and rain with a high around 40 degrees.
