Utah is Begging People to Come Hunt Giant Bullfrogs
Growing up, I spent a couple weeks every summer, just hanging out at my grandparents farm in Nebraska. There wasnt a whole lot to do, but thankfully I was a fan of the outdoors and could easily find things to do. One of those things was attempting to catch bluegill with a flyrod, in a pond nearby. This pond was mostly just a small reservoir for irrigation, but it was FULL of bluegill. It was also full of those noisy critters we call "bullfrogs." If you are not familiar with bullfrogs, they can get pretty loud when they join forces to "croak" every evening. They can also get pretty big.
One evening I asked my grandpa "do people really eat frog legs?" He, being a product of the Great Depression, said "YES! They are amazing." So I let him know that the nearby pond was crawling with them. He quickly went to his shop, pulled out a "Tom Sawyer" style bamboo rod and a bucket. He handed me a treble hook and a piece of red cloth. He told me "dont come back until the bucket is FULL." So why the cloth? As it turns out, bullfrogs are a lot like bulls. They dont like red. Like a fishing matador, I put the red cloth on the treble hook, and the frogs would pounce on it like a tiger on its prey. Needless to say it didnt take long to fill up the bucket....Oh, to answer your question. Yes! They do taste like chicken. It just took some mental convincing on my part to try it for the first time.
