When a sentence opens with, "Fall semester begins...", it's another reminder that summer is dwindling.

It's also a time of year when people are celebrating new beginnings, and for Griz sports fans the fall vibe shifts into high gear. But this is not about a football, soccer or volleyball pep rally. It's about encouraging all students to catch a super-positive Missoula spirit.

PAINT MISSOULA MAROON

UM News Service tells us that it’s again time to show your Griz Pride. With classes beginning August 26, the University of Montana invites the Missoula community to “Paint Missoula Maroon” to welcome UM students back to campus after summer break and celebrate a new academic year.

The fourth-annual event also recognizes the deep connection between the community and Montana's flagship university. Beginning Tuesday, Aug. 13, staff and students will distribute Griz Yard Signs to area businesses and neighborhoods to get the “Paint Missoula Maroon” campaign rolling.

Businesses and community members also are encouraged to display their own Griz flags, banners and window paintings. Community members displaying Griz gear can share photos on social media with the hashtag #PaintMissoulaMaroon.

WHERE TO GET YOUR SIGNS FOR FREE

Members of the public interested in the very cool "We Are Montana" Griz yard signs can pick them up free of charge. Just stop by the Grizzly Scholarship Association Office located on the first floor of the Adams Center on the UM campus or visit the campaign's corporate partner, Scheels in Missoula's Southgate Mall.

ACCORDING TO THE PRESS

In the UM News Service press release, university president Seth Bodnar was quoted as saying, “With the kickoff of the fall semester, we are excited to again paint Missoula maroon to welcome the class of 2028 to town. We encourage businesses, households and all supporters to get their Griz flags, banners and yard signs on display as we launch another vibrant school year at UM.”
