Spokane’s Jack and Dan’s Named a Must-Visit College Bar

Did you have a go-to bar while you were in college? Mine was back home in Wisconsin. It wasn't your typical "college" bar. It was more of a townie bar, you know, the place where all the townies and dedicated patrons would go. That was my spot as a dumb 21-22-year-old college student.

It was called Johnnie's Bar, by the way. You should check it out the next time you're in River Falls, Wisconsin.

The Athletic's Top 10 College Bars 2025

The Athletic compiled a list of the top 10 bars in college towns across America.

The point of doing a list of the 10 best college bars is to give the reader a guide of places to check out if he or she ends up in one of these college towns. It is <em>not</em> to identify the places in those towns that pack in the most college students - The Athletic.

No surprise, but neither Missoula nor Bozeman was featured on the list. However, a nearby city did make the list.

Jack and Dan's, Spokane, WA (Gonzaga University)

Located at 1226 N Hamilton St in Spokane, Jack and Dan's was the only bar featured not in a college football town.

Jack and Dan's is located just a few blocks from the Kennel, where the Zags play basketball. Jack and Dan's has long been a popular hangout for basketball legends.

I'll walk in and Karl Malone will be sitting there and I'm like, 'What is Karl Malone doing here?'" - General Manager Ed Eschenbacher told the Athletic.

I don't want to take eyeballs away from the article, so you'll have to check out The Athletic's piece to view the rest of the top 10, but there are stops in South Bend, Indiana, Oxford, Mississippi, and Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
