The Fallen Soldier Memorial at the University of Montana was dedicated as the official Iraq and Afghanistan veteran's memorial on Saturday, October 26.

The Big Sky Honor Flight is scheduled to take 86 Montana veterans of World War II and their companions to see the memorial constructed in their honor on October 13 and October 14. However, because federal employees are in charge of maintaining the memorial, there is uncertainty over whether or not the soldiers will be granted access because of the government shutdown.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 209 will be cooking up barbecue in McCormick Park in downtown Missoula today, August 30, to help raise money for Montana native and Navy Seal Bo Reichenbach.

I saw this on Facebook and am not sure how old it is. This lady is the coolest person in the world. She's a professional portrait artist and paints the faces of fallen soldiers for their families. She says she isn't political -- she just loves freedom. What makes her double cool is she also runs a goat ranch in central Utah and is super fun and quirky.

The national unemployment rate spiked following the 2008 financial crash, and it has remained stubbornly high ever since. Unfortunately, it has been even worse for returning American servicemembers. Today, though, Wal-Mart announced a plan to hire 100,000 veterans over the next five years.
