Set Your Sights on Montana FWP Student Internship Programs
Their slogan reads, "The outside is in us all." Maybe your dreams are to make a career out of that passion for the great Montana outdoors.
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks has been offering internships to college students for about 30 years now. It's no secret that Montana’s beautiful natural landscapes provide a rich diversity and abundance of wildlife habitats and world-class fish and wildlife for public enjoyment. Montana FWP, through its employees and citizen commission and board, provides for the stewardship of the fish, wildlife, parks, and recreational resources of Montana, while contributing to the quality of life for present and future generations.
FWP strives to preserving and protect Montana's cultural, natural and recreational heritage. One element of that is the role of Montana State Parks, creating opportunities for a wide range of outdoor recreation.
College students are given an opportunity to gain practical experience in their field of study by serving as interns for the agency. Students take what they learn in the classroom into a hands-on setting in the career world. Through this combined learning program, students become better prepared for the world of everyday work. Students usually receive academic credit and a grade while completing practicum requirements through their college.
Students are urged to contact their college career placement office for current postings of announcements or visit the FWP Employment website page and click on Internships. Most application deadlines are in early March. The Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Internship Program is open to any student currently enrolled in an accredited university/college. This includes all public, private, community, vo-tech and Native American institutions of higher learning.
Internships can be done all year around, however, the majority take place during the months of May-September. The length varies depending on the project that needs to be completed and the time frame required to get it done. Positions are located statewide.
You can also get more information or have questions answered by contacting Debbie Cheek, statewide intern coordinator, at 406-439-8299.
