Our Nation is Cracked and Broken

No, this is not one of those brilliant political commentaries for which I am famous. :-) And actually it should read that one of the most prominent physical structures that symbolizes our nation is cracked. There are more than 1,000 cracks in the U.S. Capitol dome. Soon, workers will be surrounding the dome with scaffolding to strip the paint and repair the iron, so if you are planning anything touristy in the D.C. area, you might want to see if access is limited. It's a two-year plan that's probably long overdue, since the last renovations were in 1960. Estimated cost: $60 million. I'm okay with that, too, even though I worry that our government isn't always the smartest shopper. Let's make sure we're not paying 10 grand a pound for Spackle! DB
