New Documentary Focuses On UM Basketball Coach

Now this is definitely something that University of Montana sports fans are going to want to check out. A new documentary is being released next month called The House That Rob Built, and it's all about Rob Selvig, longtime coach of the Lady Griz basketball team, from 1978 to 2016. The movie dives deep into his career, and how he "built a house of inclusion and empowerment by recruiting female athletes from the ranches, farms and Native American reservations of Big Sky Country."

And one of the coolest things about this movie is that it's actually co-directed by one of Selvig's former student athletes! Former Lady Griz Megan Harrington has built a career as a documentary filmmaker and pays tribute to her coach here, alongside New York-based director Jonathan Cipiti.

The movie actually had its premiere at the 2020 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in Missoula, but now The House That Rob Built is going to be available nationwide through video-on-demand beginning on February 23rd, though you can pre-order the film starting on January 28th. If you're interested in the nearly 40 years in college athletics that Rob Selvig oversaw, and want to know more about his approach in finding talent in places that others overlooked, this is definitely the film to check out.
