Saturday, May 28, a new exhibit will open to the public at Bozeman's premiere museum - Museum of the Rockies. "Apsaalooke Women and Warriors" will have special gallery presentations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. At 11 a.m.

The exhibit centers on the Apsaalooke, also known as the Crow culture, through the years, including their art. The collection comes from Chicago's Field Museum. A special panel will convene in the Hager Auditorium with the topic "Intellectual Traditions: Crow Conversations in Land, Culture and Art." The exhibit will be at home in Bozeman until the end of the year.

The exhibit is especially important to Montana because the Crow people are based in the south-central part of the state. The wide-ranging displays explore the art, the matriarchal traditions, the horsemanship, and the tradition of "Counting Coup" - performing acts of bravery. Curator Nina Sanders and the Apsaalooke community collected many items, including war shields, 20 works of art and a 9-foot-tall modern tipi reproduction.
