Do People Still Call These Montana Towns By Their Nicknames?
What's your nickname?
Fun fact: "Ace" is not my actual first name but my middle name and nickname. I've gone by "Ace" since youth sports. One of my coaches was giving everybody nicknames and saw my middle name was Ace and voila. I am Ace.
Montana Town Nicknames
A Reddit user by the name of HomeTownRiot (Which would be a great band name. Put your hands together for Hometown Riot!) posted a graphic of a game of nickname matches.
I knew a couple of these right off the bat:
Bozangeles: Bozeman
Zoo Town: Missoula
Chlamydia Falls: Columbia Falls
(P.S., my hometown of River Falls has been called Chlamydia Falls as well... Get some new material, people!)
The Magic City: Billings
The other two nicknames - Hell Town and Stump Town - I had to look up.
And then I was embarrassed that Helena was Hell Town... Because of course the town that has "Hel" in it would be hell town.
Then we get to Whitefish, aka Stumptown. With a little research, I found the background on why Whitefish is called Stumptown. Per Flacier Bear Condo:
The area became known as Stumptown due to a vast amount of timber needed for building downtown and the railroad. Tree stumps were left throughout downtown. And, that ishow Whitefish became known as Stumptown. - Glacier Bear Condo's History of Whitefish or Stumptown

Is it still called Stumptown regularly? I have never heard of that. Do people regularly call Helena "Hell Town?" And is there a trend happening in Columbia Falls?
