Montana State Falls to NDSU 38-10 in FCS National Championship

The Montana State Bobcats suffered a heartbreaking loss to the North Dakota State Bison in the FCS National Championship in Frisco, Texas on Saturday. The final score was NDSU 38 - MSU 10. The victory marks the 9th National Title for NDSU in the past 11 seasons.

Freshman quarterback Tommy Mellott, who was instrumental in the Bobcats' success during the playoffs, left the game with an ankle injury early in the first quarter. As a result, backup quarterback Tucker Rovig entered the game to lead the Bobcats on offense.

The Bobcats weren't able to get anything going on offense without quarterback Tommy Mellott and were only able to rack up 149 yards in the first half, compared to NDSU's 344.

The Montana State defense struggled to stop the high-powered Bison offense. NDSU was able to rush for 268 in the first half, and the Bobcats couldn't seem to find an answer.

The Bobcats trailed the Bison 28-0 at halftime, which is the largest lead at halftime in the history of the FCS Championship game.

In the 2nd half, the Bobcats continued to struggle on offense but were able to slow down NDSU's offensive attack. Blake Glessner kicked a 26-yard field goal to give the Bobcats their first points of the game in the 3rd quarter. Backup quarterback Tucker Rovig found wide receiver Lance McCutcheon for a touchdown late in the 4th quarter.

It was Montana State's first national title game appearance since defeating Louisiana Tech in the FCS Championship in 1984. Regardless of the outcome, the Bobcats have a lot to be proud of. The team played great all season long, and the future definitely looks bright for the Montana State Bobcats.
