The Missoula Parking Commission is accepting food for the Missoula Food Bank in lieu of fines for the month of November.

The Commission's Tiffany Brander said the city and the Missoula Food Bank have teamed up for a non-perishable food drive all month long.

"From today, November 1st through the 30th, we'll be accepting non-perishable food items towards the balance of a vehicle's fines," Brander said. "Folks can bring in one item for two dollars off the balance of their fine, or up to five items for a total of $10 off their balance, which, by the way, are not applicable to boot fees."

Brander said the food can be dropped off at the Parking Commission office during normal business hours.

"They can just bring their donations here to our Central Park parking structure on the bottom floor at 128 West Main," she said. "We are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p,m. and we are closed on federal holidays, on November 8th for Election Day, November 11th for Veterans Day and on November 24th for Thanksgiving. We're glad to take your food to pay off fines, but you can also just drop off donations to help the food bank, if you like."

Some of the items most in need at the Missoula Food Bank include oatmeal, low sodium soups, canned tuna, cooking oils, gluten-free items and baby food are always in demand.
