The Missoula County Attorney’s Office filed 16 new criminal complaints this week, which is two more than last week and right around the weekly average. According to County Attorney Kirsten Pabst, three of those cases involved some form of violence.

“The good news is that only one of those was a partner or family member assault,” Pabst said. “In that case, the defendant allegedly assaulted the victim in a vehicle with children present. Two other cases involved crimes of violence. One was an intimidation case. The defendant allegedly threatened to shoot his coworkers and made violent threats toward them. In the third one, we charged assault with a weapon and assault on a peace officer. In that case, the defendant allegedly threatened a bystander with a knife and then assaulted an officer that responded.”

Pabst said her office also charged two felony DUI cases. One was a fourth offense and the other was a sixth offense. In addition, two co-defendants were charged with a handful of felony offenses after they fled from law enforcement.

“In that case, the defendant was seen getting into his girlfriend’s car at a motel,” Pabst said. “He had a known fugitive warrant out of Washington. Law enforcement conducted a stop. He allegedly provided a false name and false identification. Then the defendant reportedly ordered his girlfriend to drive away. She did, almost striking an officer. A high-speed chase ensued and eventually the vehicle was stopped. They located drugs, including 13 fentanyl pills.”

There were four new property crimes and three involved embezzlements.

“In one, the allegation is that the treasurer of a union has been embezzling funds,” Pabst said. “In another, the defendant allegedly took a significant amount of money from the social security administration for the last handful of years. In the third, the defendant allegedly lied about his income to obtain unemployment benefits.”

Finally, there were three others drug cases that involved possession and/or intent to distribute. You can listen to Pabst’s full report below:
