Missoula City Fire to Conduct Controlled Burn on Wednesday [AUDIO]
Missoula City Fire will be conducting a controlled burn training exercise on Wednesday at 1625 South 7th Street starting at about 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in cooperation with Habitat for Humanity.
Fire Marshal Gordy Hughes said Monday that the event will not be a demonstration, but a controlled burn training exercise for their firefighters.
The structure being burned had already been damaged by a previous fire in 2012, then was purchased by Habitat for Humanity, who will be constructing two new homes for Habitat families. Starting next month, Habitat's volunteer work force will start construction on a three-bedroom home to house a family of four, followed by the second home to be built sometime in 2014.
Hughes said efforts are being made to limit the impact on the public's ability to navigate the area during the burn on Wednesday, but there will be some street closures that day. Missoula 9-1-1 has also been notified, so if you see smoke in the South 7th Street area, please know it is from a controlled burn.
For any questions about the controlled burn, please call Missoula City Fire at 552-6210.
