Miranda Lambert, Green Day Lead Singer Teaming for Phil Everly Tribute at 2014 Grammys
The Grammys are known for out-there musical match-ups, but who could have seen this coming? Miranda Lambert will join Billie Joe Armstrong, the lead singer of Green Day, on stage for a tribute to Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers at the 2014 awards on Sunday.
During a special In Memoriam segment, country's own Lambert will join rocker Armstrong for a performance to honor the late Everly, who passed away on Jan. 3, just before his 75th birthday. Reports say the two will perform 'When Will I Be Loved' by the Everly Brothers.
"It's really cool to perform this song," Lambert admits (quote via Examiner). "I've been doing the Linda Rondstadt version of 'When Will I Be Loved' for a long time."
Now she's in a whole different ball game as she tries to perform the original version of the song with a rock legend.
"Doing the original version is really cool. To do with with Billie Joe Armstrong I've never really [performed] with someone from a totally different genre," she adds. "We were listening to Billie Joe and Norah [Jones] on the way here, and his voice sounds so amazing on this kind of music. We're so excited about this collaboration. We've been texting. I think it's gonna be really cool."
Lambert doesn't just have a unique performance lined up -- she's also up for a few 2014 Grammy awards. The star is up for Best Country Song, but is also racing against hubby Blake Shelton in the Best Country Solo Performance category, both for her No. 1 single, ‘Mama’s Broken Heart.'
And she couldn't be happier.
“I’m so thrilled to have a Grammy nomination with such a great song,” she reveals. “’Mama’s Broken Heart’ is one of my favorite songs I have recorded.”
