There are 10 services throughout our community from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 30.  This is the 84th annual Memorial Day services in Missoula, organized by the United Veteran’s Council of Missoula and Bitterroot Valleys since the 1950s.

First service on Monday, May 30 is at the Caras Park overlook at 10 a.m. with lineup for keynote speakers, singers, bagpipers and honor and color guards at 9:45 a.m. beside the fish statue near Holiday Inn Parkside Hotel along the Clark Fork River as we have done for years.  The service ends at 10:30 a.m.

Second service on May 30 will be at Missoula Courthouse Gazebo at 11 a.m. with line up behind the World War I Doughboy Statue at the corner of Broadway and Ryman Drive at 10:45 a.m.  The service ends at 11:30 a.m.

Third service on May 30 will be at Western Montana State Veteran’s Cemetery at High Noon with line up behind the audience chairs facing the flag poles at 11:45 a.m. or whenever the VFW Honor Guard and American Legion Color Guard and other honor and color guards arrive by bus from the Missoula Courthouse ceremony.  Service ends at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Fourth service on May 30 will be at Fort Missoula Military Cemetery across the street from Big Sky High School and near the Western Montana State Cemetery at approximately 12:45 p.m. for a short service and placement of a wreath at the base of Ole Beck’s monument.

Fifth service on May 30 will be at Sunset Memorial Garden Cemetery on Mullan Road past Super Wal*Mart after participants in all the services stop for lunch there.  Short service to dedicate a new flag for the cemetery is done after lunch at approximately 1:45 p.m.  Charter bus remains at this cemetery from approximately 1 to 2 p.m.

Sixth service on May 30 will be at Missoula City Cemetery at approximately 2:10 p.m.  Short service with placement of wreath at base of veteran memorial.

Seventh service on May 30 will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Annex Cemetery at approximately 2:15 p.m.  Short service with placement of wreath at base of veteran memorial.

Eighth service on May 30 will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at approximately 2:30 p.m.  Short service with placement of wreath at base of veteran memorial.

Ninth service on May 30 will be at Rose Memorial Garden Park along Brooks Avenue at approximately 3 p.m.  Long service starts at 3 p.m. or whenever the charter bus arrives with most of the service participants.  Line up at 2:45 p.m. at the Korean War Memorial with slow walk to Vietnam Memorial by honor and color guards, keynote speaker, singer, VFW and American Legion Auxiliary members who carry wreaths, Master of Ceremonies and bagpipers.  Service ends at 3:30 p.m.

Tenth service on May 30 will be at Rose Memorial Garden park monuments, wreath laying at 3:50 p.m.   Red, white and blue helicopter flyover by CareFlight of Community Medical Center at 3:50 p.m.  Final prayer, 21-gun salute presented and Taps played.  Second service ends at approximately 4 p.m.

Events start off early on Memorial Day with Corvallis Community
Event Center’s breakfast from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Corvallis
High School Lunchroom located off the Eastside highway.
At noon the Corvallis American Legion Post #91 will conduct a
memorial service at the Corvallis Cemetery. After the memorial service
a wreath ceremony will take place at the Woodside Cutoff Bridge.

Monday, May 30, 2011 starting at 10:00 a.m. on Main Street in Corvallis     The Corvallis Community Festival will begin after the parade at the
north end of Main Street. The festival consists of a carnival, and food booths.
