On July 8, 2022, Missoula Police Department Officers were dispatched to the Poverello Center for a disturbance in progress. Dispatched advised that a caller reported that a male threatened another male with a knife.

An officer arrived on scene and made contact with the caller who stated 36-year-old Cody Rowland had a knife and just left the area. The caller said Rowland had a cart and dog with him.

Another officer arrived on scene and spoke further with the caller. The caller reported she observed Rowland with no shirt on approach another male. Rowland was holding a knife by his side and began to threaten the other male. The caller said the knife was about twelve to fourteen inches long. The caller tried to intervene, but Rowland pointed at her with the knife by his side and stated, “you’re next.” The caller immediately walked away from the scene. “Officer responded to the Poverello Center for a report of Rowland threatening the victim and their dog with a knife,” Arnold said. “Officers on scene spoke with the victim and independent witnesses. Officers located Rowland walking away from the Poverello Center. Rowland was taken into custody. Later, the weapon used was located and logged into police evidence. There were no injuries and this incident is still under investigation with the Missoula Police Department Detective Division.”

An officer contacted the victim who reported that he was approached by Rowland and another male. Rowland and the victim have not been on good terms recently. Rowland began getting in the victim’s face threatening to kill him and his pregnant girlfriend.

Court documents indicate Rowland pulled a large knife out of his cart and swung it at the victim. The victim reported the knife got within a couple of inches of his stomach. The victim reported that a G.D. witnessed the event. The officer spoke to G.D. who corroborated what the victim reported. G.D. also reported that Rowland threatened to kill him and his dog, but Rowland never swung the knife at him.

Rowland is currently being charged with one count of felony criminal endangerment.
