At around 3:15 a.m. Monday, someone called Missoula police and said a disturbance was taking place between a male and a female. The incident occurred at a hotel in the 200 block of South Pattee Street. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.

“Officers responding to the area were told that the male involved had left the area and actually was leaving the property in a dark colored vehicle,” Welsh said. “As the officer approached, he observed a dark colored vehicle leaving the hotel property at a high rate of speed. The vehicle made a couple of quick turns and the officer followed. As the officer was initiating what he believed to be a pursuit, the vehicle suddenly pulled over near the intersection of Washington and Broadway.”

According to Welsh, a male got out of the driver’s seat and started to run westbound on Broadway. The officer started to chase the male on foot and asked him to stop, but the male refused.

“The officer had to catch up to him and tackle him to the ground before he could take him into custody,” Welsh said. “The male was identified as 39-year-old Dean Mortin. Mr. Mortin was on probation and was subsequently arrested for violating probation conditions. It was also discovered that he had prior DUI convictions and this was his fourth or subsequent.”

Mr. Mortin is currently being held for felony DUI, felony probation violation, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, and driving while suspended.
